|
Beginning Weaving
Dates: Sept. 27, Sept. 28, Oct. 4; Oct. 18; Nov. 1; Nov. 8. Hours: 10 am - 3 pm (except Sept. 27, 10 am - 2 pm and Nov. 8, 1 pm - 3 pm) These classes are designed for beginners with no previous weaving experience. The instruction focus is on teaching a simple, efficient method for dressing (warping) a 4-shaft loom. Several projects will be covered using a variety of beautiful fibers. This allows students to become confident about planning simple projects, choosing yarns, warping the loom and finishing their cloth. Students will have the opportunity to use our new "Wolf Pub" floor looms. Projects will be started in class and completed at home. Students should expect to spend two to five hours of homework per project
Maximum class size: 8
Room: 118
Cost: $225.00 (includes use of new floor loom and all yarns) Additional $10.00 fee for a binder and handouts payable to the instructor at first class. An additional $75 security deposit for the loom and equipment will be returned at the end of the class upon receipt of all lent items.
Skill Level: B

Advancing Twill - Sampler to Scarf
Dates/Hours: Oct. 18, 25, Nov. 1; 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.
For this workshop students will select a twill and thread their 8-shaft loom in advance with 8/2 Tencel. Each student will weave two projects, adjusting the tie up and treadling to vary the weaving in ways that one would never expect. Students will weave at home at their own pace. Ambitious weavers may allow extra warp to re-thread for a third project. The samples willbe dramatic, useale scarves! The students will learn how to de-mystify the secrets of advancing twill which will enable them to design their own handwovens. Advancing twill is a straight run of twill interrupted at regular intervals to offset the traditional twill angle. The results are exciting, complex patterns, often curvilinear and asymmetric, that resemble brocades requiring more than eithg shafts. Virginia has promised other ideas and patterns for a three-dimmensional scarf. These ideas could be used for the WGGB's 60th Anniversary scarf project.
